About Macular Dystrophy:
There are diseases called Macular Dystrophies that affect the Cornea, or clear front surface of the eye which don’t lead to total blindness, just decreased vision, and there are diseases called Macular Dystrophies that affect the back of the eye, or retina, that can lead to devastating blindness. Based on what Mr. Beck states, our opinion is he suffers from Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy, a disease that affects the retina and macula of the eye, both structures within the back of the eye, although it is unclear at the time. There is also a common blinding eye condition, macular degeneration that typically occurs in the elderly but has forms that may occur in younger people.
Types of retinal macular dystrophies include:
Dominant Drusen/Doyne’s Honeycomb Dystrophy
North Carolina Macular Dystrophy and several others.
